Magazines

Just wondering - does this weapon take normal M9 magazines and if not, why not ( since that would be extremely silly )? - The Upright Man 07:39, 21 June 2012 (MDT)

As far as I know it doesn't. Although IRL it would work, it would be useless since the bullet itself would make enough noise to be heard (supersonic ammo = faster then sound = )
The other way around does work, although the muzzle would still make a lot of noise. The bullet itself is "silence" (subsonic = slower then sound).
Why ARMA2 doesn't allow regular ammo at a SD weapon, but does allow SD ammo at a regular weapon is unclear to me. Couldn't find a real answer on google either... - Grezvany13 10:29, 21 June 2012 (MDT)
Because Non SD-Ammo is forbidden when using a silencer. It would destroy it (supersonic -> sonic boom -> pressure rising -> silencer boom). And because you aren't allowed to remove the silencer in ARMA (or cannot as in the MP5SD) they restricted the ammunition you can use.
The other way round is not problem. Your weapon isn't just as effective as usual. - Leucetius 16:32, 21 June 2012 (MDT)↑
So while they're striving to make zombies and lots of other stuff as "realistic" as possible, they leave the player as a blithering idiot who can't hold a flashlight and a gun and can't take off a silencer or decide he just might want to shoot with it ( and no, I haven't come across anyone ruining their suppressor because they fired supersonic bullets with it ). Hopefully that gets mended for the sake of their "realism". Well thanks for clearing up that particular game mechanic. - The Upright Man 11:37, 22 June 2012 (MDT)

SD vs. Silenced Nomenclature

Why the change from 'M9 SD' to 'M9 Silenced'? I happened to find one in-game yesterday and it's still referred to there as 'M9 SD'; shouldn't the wiki rely on DayZ's own nomenclature to determine article/item names? - Christopher (talk) 14:57, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

If you noticed, I changed a lot of weapons to the name in DayZ. M9 Silenced was one of them... I thought. I'll double check- or if you can show a screenshot or something that will be good enough for me to change it back. - Smokie (talk) 18:21, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
